Phase noise of a single-electron emitter: Adiabatic versus non-adiabatic regime

We present analytical calculations of a finite-frequency noise of a single-electron source for both adiabatic and non-adiabatic emission conditions within the Floquet scattering matrix theory and complement them with a simple and intuitive description. The entire frequency dependence of an excess noise is qualitatively similar for both working conditions. The low-frequency quadratic asymptotic is shown to be universal. With increasing frequency the noise gets suppressed, however, the cut-off frequency depends on the regime of emission. The cut-off frequency is related to the energy of emitted particles, which is substantially smaller for adiabatic emission. In addition we analyze a non-equilibrium finite-frequency noise and show that it provides information on a single-electron emission not accessible with a conventional noise.
