Fractionalizing Majorana fermions in quantum wires and on edges of abelian quantum Hall states

In this talk I will describe a new type of non-abelian anyons, fractionalized Majorana fermions, that may be engineered to exist on the edges of abelian quantum Hall states. I will describe the ground state degeneracy associated with these anyons, the unitary transformations associated with their braiding, and the type of quantum computation they may realize. Furtehrmore, I will discuss the possibility of engineering such anyons in quantum wires.
